PoE kinda does its own thing based on the existing RPG model but adds an incredible amount of items that synergyze in just too many ways to simplify. If you just come to PoE thinking in traditional ways you will find yourself having issues with builds in general. Since an item with lower armor value that has other beneficiary rolls might synergize differently and provide a much higher physical dmg reduction by other means in itself or by working together with another item or even sets of items. Saying big armor value is the best for reducing physical dmg is correct and its also a trap. There is a certain synergistic quality to making builds in this game and judging items efficacy based on their stat rolls. Most stats have to be considered in relation to all other gear you have on atm or in the future and all passives you currently have and in the future. Because armor and all other stats don't necessarily work as straightforward as that in this game. But I know by now that it reduces physical damage. I guess you didn't really understood my question, I wanted to know what the benefits of for example a helmet with high armor is. This is the part where most casual players give up but for experienced players the game begins. Just continue mapping until you have the currency. When you do so but you face the problem that you don't have enough currency: it's end of the league and it's too late for most of the big money maker strats. So will learn the game and how damage scaling works. You want to make your own build? No problem but play 4-5 different chars on lvl 90+ first. You are new to the game? Get a build guide.
